Event Manager Shares First Statement After Zubeen Garg’s Tragic Demise; Festival Cancelled
The event manager for singer Zubeen Garg has issued his first public statement following the well-known artist’s death in a scuba diving accident in Singapore. The announcement confirms that the planned performance by Garg has been cancelled and provides some details surrounding the incident.
In the statement, manager Shyamkanu Mahanta said that Garg passed away at Singapore General Hospital at approximately 2:30 p.m. He noted that Garg had arrived in Singapore just two days prior to the accident and was to perform at a festival the next day, during which he was also expected to meet and interact with fans.
Earlier in the day, Garg and his team were participating in meetings with Singaporean business and policy leaders at the Shangri-La Hotel, arranged to promote investments in Northeast India. During this time, the organizers say they received a call from Garg’s manager informing them of an accident. It emerged that a few members of the local Assamese community had taken Garg on a yacht visit, which the event team states they were not aware of.
Upon receiving word of the mishap, the organizers say they rushed to the hospital and are liaising with Indian diplomatic officials to manage the necessary procedures. The statement described the loss as monumental, expressing profound grief and stating that words cannot adequately capture the depth of sorrow felt by his team.
As a result of the tragedy, the festival at which Zubeen Garg was due to perform has been cancelled. The organizers said they are “devastated” and offered prayers for the departed singer, invoking a solemn tribute in his memory.
