HOT SHOT
Fully Involved House Fire

HAYWOOD COUNTY - The Center Pigeon responded to this structure fire
in March. The 7,500 square foot home was well involved on arrival.
Nine fire departments fought the blaze for several hours before
controlling the blaze.

Western North Carolina House Fire

RUTHERFORD COUNTY - Bill's Creek Fire
responded to this house fire on April 19th. Crews were assisted by
Fairfield Mountains and Shingle Hollow. On arrival, units reported
a double wide mobile home 80% involved. Three handlines were used
to control the fire. A small creek near the structure was used as
a water source.
CAF was used to complete extinguishment and perform overhaul.
Green Hill and Chimney Rock provided coverage for stations
operating at the fire.

HOT SHOT
Duplin County Fatal MVC

DUPLIN COUNTY - On Thursday, March 20th,
Beulaville and Potters Hill were dispatched to a MVC with
entrapment at the intersection of Highway 241 and Sarecta Road.
Crews found a total of six patients with two pinned. Three
aero-medical choppers and an additional three ground transport
units were requested. One patient later died due to their
injuries.

Media

CHARLOTTE - As part of National
Telecommunications Week, local Charlotte media were allowed a
rare look inside the Communications Center of the Charlotte Fire
Department recently. CFD "Alarm" is located on an upper floor of
Fire Station One in uptown Charlotte.

CHAPEL HILL -
Above are several fire officials
who recently graduated from the
Municipal and County Administration Course.
The course, offered by the
School of Government
at UNC-Chapel Hill, is designed for city and county managers,
department heads, and other city or county officials whose
responsibilities require an understanding of functions beyond
individual areas of specialization. Major subject areas include
Local Government Law, Organization and Management, Finance and
Budgeting, Public Employment Law, Planning and Regulation of
Development, and Municipal and County Services.
Participants meet approximately once a month from September to
April each year and hear from 55 instructors, including School
of Government faculty and practitioners from local governments
around the state. Included in the course is a Fire Protection
session led by Charlotte Fire Chief Jon Hannan and Lexington
Fire Chief Thad Dickerson, both course graduates from 2004.
Graduation for this year’s course took place on Thursday, April
24, in Chapel Hill.
