Samsung Tests Redesigned Quick Settings Panel in One UI 8.5 Update
Samsung is reportedly experimenting with a revamped Quick Settings panel in One UI 8.5, aiming to streamline user access to toggles, notifications, and widgets. The update appears to be part of Samsung’s ongoing effort to refine its interface design for future Galaxy devices.
According to leaks, the new Quick Settings layout will shift from the traditional tile grid toward a sided panel where toggles remain in view as you scroll through notifications. In this design, the connectivity buttons — like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane Mode — would always stay accessible, even when the notification list becomes long.
Another notable change is the repositioning of the brightness control. Rather than residing among the tiles, the brightness slider is proposed to move into the notification shade itself, making it more intuitive and quicker to reach. This reorganization is expected to reduce clutter and increase efficiency for users.
Beyond visual changes, the updated Quick Settings may also be more context aware. For instance, some tiles could adapt or expand automatically based on app usage patterns, while others might be hidden when not relevant. The goal: minimize taps and make the interface smarter about what users need at any moment.
Samsung has not confirmed when One UI 8.5 might roll out broadly — or whether these Quick Settings tweaks will make it into the public release. The company typically tests UI refinements internally before releasing them to users. If all goes well, early versions could arrive first on its newer Galaxy S or Z series phones.
If you’re using a Galaxy device enrolled in early software testing programs, keep an eye on incremental updates — the new Quick Settings layout might show up first there. For the rest of users, it could be a few more months until these changes reach general builds.
