Apple’s pre-order queues for the iPhone 17 Pro Max in the United States are already experiencing shipping delays—many buyers are now seeing estimated delivery dates slipping into October instead of the original launch week.
Originally, Apple had promised that new iPhones—including the 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max—would start arriving on September 19 for those who ordered early. Early pre-orders showed availability for launch-day delivery or pickup for most configurations.
However, for the Pro Max model, the story is changing. Several color and storage combinations are now showing much later delivery windows, often between October 6 and October 13. Some models of Pro Max have become scarce in popular finishes—colors like Silver and Cosmic Orange are especially affected—leading to further pushed-out dates.
Meanwhile, less premium models are faring better. The standard iPhone 17 and the new iPhone Air still show strong availability for September 19 delivery across most color and storage options. The iPhone 17 Pro also remains largely on schedule, with many customers still expecting launch-day delivery.
Some users report seeing “glitches” in the ordering system. For example, they say that while the description claimed September 19 delivery, upon checking out or viewing certain pages, the delivery window changed. Others who had initial delivery dates beyond launch day are reporting some updates that bring them earlier, although uncertainty remains.
In-store pickup appears to offer better odds for some buyers. For certain configurations, launch-day pickup at Apple Stores is still an option, even if home delivery is delayed.
So, what’s happening is a mix of high demand, limited stock for certain variants, and logistical constraints. Those eyeing the iPhone 17 Pro Max should check their preorder’s status carefully—if you want earlier delivery, going for less popular colors or opting for store pickup may help. Others will likely have to wait into October before their new device arrives.
