Fire units arrived to find a single vehicle MVC off the roadway.

While multiple apparatus were operating on the scene, Warsaw Engine 4 blocked a lane of traffic for a safety zone and was struck from behind by a SUV at a high rate of speed causing heavy damage to the fire apparatus and the SUV.

Three firefighters were standing near the back of the apparatus and were able to get out of the way before it was struck.

One of the firefighters was struck by the apparatus as it moved forward and sustained minor injuries and was transport to a local hospital by EMS.

The driver of the SUV was not injured and was placed under arrest by the North Carolina Highway Patrol on multiple traffic violation.

This is the second apparatus from the Warsaw Fire Department that has been struck by a vehicle while on the scene of a MVC on Interstate 40 this year. The other apparatus was Warsaw Crash 412.

Reader Comments:

Just wanted to set the record straight that the MVA was at the 364 MM and this unit was the first on the scene having just arrived and the FF that was injured was in the truck when it occurred.
