RALEIGH - It was Christmas in July on Wednesday, when Raleigh’s newest apparatus rolled into the Capital City.
The 2010 Pierce tiller arrived at City Services just off of New Bern Avenue Wednesday after the trip from Appleton, Wisconsin.
This is a replacement unit for Ladder 4, a 2004 Pierce tiller that was destroyed in a rollover collision on July 10th, 2009.
The new unit will be assigned to Ladder 4, which is housed at Fire Station 1 on Dawson Street in downtown.
Similar in design to the 2004 rig, there are some cosmetic differences and mechanical enhancements on the 2010 unit.
The 2010 unit is pulled by an Arrow XT cab. It features a 1,500 gpm pump, a 300 gallon tank, and a 100 foot aerial.
This unit will be on display next month in Raleigh at the South Atlantic FIRE RESCUE Expo.
