DAVIDSON COUNTY - A patient was transported via Air Care helicopter to a Winston-Salem hospital Monday morning after an accident involving a school bus on Cotton Grove Road.
The bus was carrying seven students from Stoner-Thomas School. The students and driver were taken to Lexington Memorial Hospital with minor injuries, according to Lexington Police Department officers on the scene. Parents of the students had been notified, and school personnel were at the hospital.
The bus was traveling south on Cotton Grove about 8 a.m. when the accident happened at the intersection with Oak Avenue.
Two other vehicles were involved, a GMC Envoy and a Mazda Protégé. The front of the bus struck the driver’s side of the Envoy. The driver of the Envoy was pinned in. Once freed the driver was transported to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center via Air Care.
Air Care left shortly after 9 a.m. en route to the hospital.
The driver of the Mazda was taken to Lexington Memorial with minor injuries, officers said.
A Lexington Utilities power pole was knocked down. A spokesman for Lexington Utilities said no service has been knocked out and that the pole was actually an old one scheduled for removal.
Cotton Grove Road between Talbert Boulevard and Old Linwood Road will be closed for at least two hours, officers said.
Lexington Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
