WARREN COUNTY - Afton-Elberon Fire was dispatched to a reported MVC with unknown injuries on US Highway 401 South on Thursday, January 28 at 22:56 hours.

Fire Chief Joey Andrews arrived on scene within three minutes and reported a two-vehicle collision with heavy damage to both vehicles and the roadway blocked.

Further evaluation revealed two victims pinned with another walking wounded. Command then requested two medical helicopters.

Alfon-Elberon Engine 71, Tanker 74 and Mini-Pumper 72 responded. The crew members on 72 started extrication and Engine 71 established the landing zone.

Assisting AEFD were Warren County EMS, Warren County SO, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, UNC Tarheel 1 and Duke Lifeflight.

There was one fatality in the incident.
