KERNERSVILLE - A firefighter was sent to the hospital after an early morning fire in Kernersville.

Two employees were leaving work from the Dell Computers plant on Union Cross Road when they called 911 to report a house fire. Firefighters responded to the area around 2:00 am Wednesday morning.

Kernersville Fire Chief Walt Summerville said eight people were in the house when the fire stared, but all escaped without injury.

Summerville said the roof later collapsed while a fire crew was still inside the house.

All of the firefighters made it out okay, but one was transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure. He was treated and released.

Summerville says all indications show the fire was started near the fireplace in the home. The fireplace was being burned at the time.

The explosion occurs at 02:04:05.
