CHARLOTTE - A portion of a burning Ballantyne area home collapsed trapping two Charlotte firefighters who were inside trying to battle flames.

Charlotte firefighters responded to a home in the 11000 block of Thornhill Club Drive around 10 a.m.

Video from the scene showed heavy smoke and flames shooting from the two story home. Part of the home collapsed trapping two firefighters, but they were able to escape and they appear to be okay.

Around 10:45 a.m. the fire was upgraded to a third alarm.

The home is located behind the Stonecrest shopping center in Ballantyne.

The American Red Cross is responding to the scene. Neighbors report that the mom was out walking with one of her kids and the dog when the fire broke out.
