JOHNSTON COUNTY - Brogden Fire and Princeton EMS responded to a multi rollover crash New Year’s Day which injured the son of the Smithfield-Selma High School Principal.

The wreck happened as the 17 year-old was headed home from a New Year’s Eve lockup aimed at preventing drunk driving at Whitley Church in Princeton.

The Highway Patrol said the teen driving was traveling on Baker’s Chapel Road when he ran off the roadway in his 1996 Chevy truck, struck two private driveway culverts, and overturned in a ditch.

The driver sustained head injuries and was transported to WakeMed in Raleigh.

Trooper D.L. Braswell said speed did not appear to be a factor, but fatigue may have played a role in the crash.

Jacobs was cited for failing to maintain lane control.
