HOLLY SPRINGS - Firefighters spent about an hour Monday afternoon battling a massive house fire that destroyed one house and damaged two others on Morton Farm Road in Holly Springs.
At 4:30 p.m., Holly Springs Fire Chief Cecil Parker and firefighters from his department were still on the scene. The fire broke out about 2 p.m. at a house at 508 Morton Farm Road, said Mark Andrews, the town’s public information officer.

“There were heavy flames coming from the house when police and firefighters arrived,” Andrews said. “The house is destroyed.”

No one was injured in the blaze, Andrews said. The owner, who Andrews did not immediately identify, was traveling home from out of town when the fire broke out, he said.

Heat from the fire caused some damage to the vinyl siding of one neighboring house and caused minor heat damage to the exterior of another house, Andrews said. The flames had mostly been extinguished by 3 p.m., although Andrews said firefighters were still watching later in the afternoon for hot spots.

“It’s not obviously burning now, but there is quite a bit of rubble out there, and there could continue to be hot spots,” he said.

Joining Holly Springs to fight the fire were the Fuquay-Varina and Fairview fire departments. Andrews said a supervisor from Cary’s rescue squad was also on hand and was believed to have treated a firefighter for sickness unrelated to the fire.

And once again, where’s the PPE?!?!?!  And everybody wonders why NC is leading the nation in FF LODD!!!!!! Could it be the lack of training, or stupid stunts like this.  Dont know if it’s a cop or a FF, but whoever it is, they need to be reminded of why we have PPE!!!!!

I am angered by pictures like this. Why do we continue to look stupid? This is obviously a very poor command structure, lack of scene control or better yet an officer NOT doing their job. We recieve training for a reason.  We need to continue getting training, REMEMBER what we learn and applying it. Now why was he fighting fire? Would his injury or death benefit the outcome of this fire? Obviously no one was home so you did not have a life safety issue? I would hate to explain his injuries or death to that police officers wife!
