KERNERSVILLE - Shortly before 11:00 hours Friday, October 24th, Kernersville Engine 43, Engine 41 and Colfax Quint 16 were dispatched to 129 Croyden Drive on a reported house fire.

Battalion 41 had smoke visible from Headquarters Station which is several miles away.

He requested Engine 42 and Forsyth County EMS to respond and put Engine 32 (Piney Grove) and Engine 25/17 (Talley’s/City View) on stand-by.

Upon arrival, the almost 4,000 sq ft house had heavy smoke and flames showing.  An initial interior attack with a 2.5 inch handline was attempted but due to the amount of fire and heat coupled with the threat of collapse, units were advised to go to a defensive operation.

Engine 25 was requested to respond to the scene and Truck 41 cleared their previous detail to respond.

Quint 16 and Truck 41 utilized their aerial master streams to knock down the main fire to the point ground crews were able to extinguish the fire.

Forsyth County Fire Air 9 responded to fill air bottles, FCEMS and Winston-Salem Rescue Squad provided rehab.

The Kernersville Fire Marshal’s Office received assistance from the Winston-Salem Fire Marshal’s Office and their new K-9, Shazam.  Estimated total loss is $950,000.
