BOONE - On Monday, November 24th, at 17:51 hours, Boone Fire responded to a report of a structure fire at 1064 East King Street.
Engine 3, Engine 5, Engine 8, Squad 1, Blowing Rock Tower 1, Deep Gap Engine 2302, and four staff vehicles responded to the alarm.
First arriving units observed moderate smoke venting from the restaurant side of the building and light smoke venting from the convenience store side. Fire was visible venting from the A/B corner of the roof area.
Fire was burning in the attic space of the restaurant and was extending into the attic area above the convenience store. An interior attack on the fire was initiated with crews operating in both the restaurant and convenience store.
A vertical ventilation opening was placed over the restaurant to assist the fire attack crews. The fire was declared under control at 18:51 hours with the last fire crews leaving the scene by 22:00.
Damage was estimated at $245,000 for the restaurant and $325,000 for the convenience store.
No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
Watauga Medics and Watauga Rescue stood by at the scene for the duration of the incident.
Cove Creek Engine 2201 stood by at Station 1 during the incident.
Boone Police and the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office provided traffic control around the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
