KITTY HAWK - An OBX home burst into flames and spread to two adjacent homes located on Lindberg Avenue Thursday night. Dare County Fire Marshall Dough Remaley says the fire broke out Shortly after 6 p.m.
According to Remaley, a family of three were inside watching television when the fire broke out. He says the family’s TV blinked and then the picture went out. The son went outside to see what caused the outage and while he was looking for a cause, fire engulfed the home.
The boy’s parents managed to escape the flames by jumping out of a window. His father suffered first and second-degree burns. His mother was also injured. Both were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The boy was not injured.
Their home was completely destroyed, Remaley says, and the two neighboring homes suffered heavy to moderate damage.
Early damage estimates are in the $300,000-$400,000 range.
The family who lost their home were permanent residents at the address. The other two homes were occupied by tourists and were not hurt.
