RALEIGH - Four apartments were damaged in a two-alarm fire early Thursday morning, June 25. The apartment fire at 6305 Shanda Drive was reported at 4:47 a.m. Engine 15 was first on scene and declared a major working fire, which resulted in the automatic dispatch of a second alarm.
Interior operations were followed with the order to withdraw all personnel from the structure. Evacuation horns were sounded, and defensive operations started using Ladder 4, a deluge gun, and numerous hand lines. The fire was controlled by 6:30 a.m.
The blaze apparently started in the laundry room, and spread to other apartments. All occupants evacuated safety, and no injuries were reported. The cause was determined as improperly discarded smoking materials.
