Fire Burns Residence in Lakeview

MOORE COUNTY - A fire that burned through the roof of a residence in the Lakeview area this morning is under control.

The fire, at 119 Merry Oak Road located off of Airport Road, was reported at approximately 10 a.m. this morning. The first responders were Circle V Fire Department. The first truck heading for the scene reported that it could see heavy black smoke when it was about a mile away from the residence, said Frank Staples, safety officer for Circle V.

When the truck arrived, firemen reported that flames were coming through the roof of the structure. The fire was in “mop-up” mode by 11 a.m., Staples said. There was significant damage to the residence.

Between eight and 10 trucks from the Circle V, Whispering Pines, Southern Pines and Cameron fire departments responded to the fire. Also on the scene were representatives from the fire marshall’s office and the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
