MON AUG 21
SUBMITTED BY BATTALION CHIEF KEVIN GRIFFIN, WINSTON-SALEM FIRE
WINSTON-SALEM - The Winston-Salem Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on South Sunset Drive last Tuesday afternoon. Engine 6 arrived first on the scene to find heavy smoke and flames showing from a three-story apartment building. Engine 6's crew removed several occupants trapped on a second story balcony using ground ladders. An exhaustive search was performed when an occupant was reported still trapped inside. This report proved to be false.

Numerous companies responded to assist due to the high temperatures. Two firefighters were transported to the hospital suffering extreme heat exhaustion. They were released later that night. Several other members were treated on scene for heat exhaustion by the Forsyth County EMS. There were no occupant injuries. The cause of the fire was accidental.
