WINSTON-SALEM - The Winston-Salem Fire
Department responded to an apartment fire on South Sunset Drive
last Tuesday afternoon. Engine 6 arrived first on the scene to
find heavy smoke and flames showing from a three-story apartment
building. Engine 6's crew removed several occupants trapped on a
second story balcony using ground ladders. An exhaustive search
was performed when an occupant was reported still trapped
inside. This report proved to be false.
Numerous companies responded to assist due to the high
temperatures. Two firefighters were transported to the hospital
suffering extreme heat exhaustion. They were released later that
night. Several other members were treated on scene for heat
exhaustion by the Forsyth County EMS. There were no occupant
injuries. The cause of the fire was accidental.

WAKE FOREST -
Captain Eric Mohn arrived on Wake Forest
Engine 63 to find an unattached storage barn located at the rear
of a two-story historic home heavily involved. Wake Forest Fire
Chief 100 arrived second due assuming command and requesting
additional resources from Falls and Stony Hill Fire Departments.
Two lines were stretched from Engine 63 to suppress the fire and
protect the two-story historic balloon frame structure.
Engine 431 was assigned to establish a secondary water source on
North Main Street and stretch a third line to the rear of the
historic home to assist with suppression and overhaul efforts.
Twenty-one firefighters responded on the initial alarm from the
Wake Forest Fire Department with nine additional personnel
responding from the mutual aid departments. Crews worked for two
hours to control the blaze and conduct overhaul operations. Wake
County FMO is currently investigating the suspicious fire. No
injuries were reported.

10 and Supervisor 205.

HAYWOOD COUNTY - Clyde and
Junaluska Fire Departments responded to Highway 19/23 for a
mobile home fire. The brakes or a tire caught fire and burned
through the floor of the trailer. Traffic was stopped for a
short time.

WAKE FOREST -
This live burn off South Main
Street lit the night sky Saturday night as a live burn was
conducted by the Wake Forest Fire Department. Participants
included Wake County firefighters from Rolesville, Stony Hill,
and Falls, and Franklin County firefighters from Youngsville.

JOHNSTON COUNTY - Two West
Johnston High School students were killed in this collision
last Tuesday. Three girls were pinned in this vehicle for
about an hour. The crash occurred when the Camaro ran a stop
sign and was t-boned by a truck. Three aero-medical
helicopters were called to assist in the operations.
