Moore County Firefighter Dies After Collapsing Tuesday

MOORE COUNTY
- The Whispering Pines Fire Department (Moore County Station 51)
has announced this morning that Probationary Firefighter Glen
Miller, age 34, has died.
Firefighter Miller was attending training on Tuesday, August 14
at the Fayetteville Technical Community College Fire Academy and
collapsed. He reportedly suffered a severe cardiac emergency.
Services will be held Saturday, August 25th. Additional details
forthcoming.

Fire Crews From Three Counties Battle Hay
Barn Fire

SAMPSON COUNTY -
It took fire crews from ten departments in
Johnston, Harnett and Sampson counties more than six hours to
extinguish a massive barn fire Sunday afternoon in the
Plainview
community. Around 2pm, crews were dispatched to a large barn fire
at the Carroll Farm on Highway 55 in
Sampson
County.
Plainview Fire Chief Ken Jackson said the first firefighters on the
scene discovered 150 round bales of hay inside the barn were on fire
along with several pieces of farm equipment inside the metal
shelter.
Jackson
said most of the farm equipment in the barn was saved. Firefighters
spent the afternoon pouring tens of thousands of gallons of water on
the stubborn fire, while also removing as much hay as possible from
the barn.
Chief Jackson said the fire did not appear to be suspicious but the
origin of the blaze was still under investigation. Crews from
Plainview, Spivey’s
Corner, Dunn, Newton Grove, Herring, Blackmon’s Crossroads, Meadow,
Benson, Vann’s Crossroads, and Salemburg Fire Departments responded
to the alarm. Newton Grove EMS dispatched two ambulances to the
scene. No injuries were reported.

Raleigh House Fire

RALEIGH -
Lightning was suspected of starting a fire on
Wee Burn Trail about 8:00 p.m. last Thursday. Engine 16 was first on
arrival at the two-story residence. Crews battled flames on the
second floor and in the attic. Three additional companies were
special called for relief. Units included E16, E18, E17, L16, R14,
B4, B3, C5, A8, FC1, E9 E13 L23, Six Forks EMS 1271, Wake EMS 203.

VERY HOT SHOT
Raleigh Hazardous Materials Incident

RALEIGH -
The high temperature last Thursday was 104
degrees, with a heat index of 105 to 115. Extensive rehab was
required at a hazardous-materials incident at about 11:00 a.m. at a
biomedical company at 7516 Precision Drive. A container with a small
amount of a flammable solid was breached. Personnel remained on
scene for five hours. Units included Durham Highway E3, Bethesda
E421, Raleigh E24, E8, L20, R14, B4, B1, C5, C2, Air 8, HM2, SR2,
SR22, Decon 1, FC1, Six Forks EMS 1272, 1280, Cary EMS 574, Wake EMS
33, 203, 103, Truck 1, WC201, WC3, WC1, and Barry's Cafe.

Garner House Fire

GARNER - Garner Fire responded to a reported
structure fire around 10:30pm at 138 Clayfield Drive. Engine 3
pulled up on scene to find a two-story residence with fire in the
garage. A neighbor had a water hose shooting water through the
garage window. The fire was knocked down and the rest of the
residence was checked for extension and the house was cleared of
smoke.
The only fire damage found was in the garage including a Cadillac
Escalade but there was smoke damage throughout the house. The origin
was around an electric kitchen stove located in the corner of the
garage. Responding units: Garner Engine 1, Engine 3, Car 2, Truck 1,
Garner EMS 11, and Garner EMS Rescue Truck.

Union County
Firefighter Killed Saturday in Collision

MONROE - Fire officials with the Wesley Chapel Fire Department
in Union County have confirmed that one of their firefighters
was killed in an apparatus collision Saturday afternoon.
Todd W. Hage, 43, was driving Engine 261 to a fire alarm call at
a nearby elementary school. The call turned out to be false. The
engine rolled on Waxhaw-Indian Trail Road. A second engine
arrived at the scene moments after the crash, but Hage died at
the scene.

posted.
