Fire Crews From Three Counties Battle Hay Barn Fire
TUE AUG 14
SUBMITTED BY CARTER RABIL, CFP-7322

SAMPSON COUNTY - It took fire crews from ten departments in Johnston, Harnett and Sampson counties more than six hours to extinguish a massive barn fire Sunday afternoon in the Plainview community.  Around 2pm, crews were dispatched to a large barn fire at the Carroll Farm on Highway 55 in Sampson County.

Plainview Fire Chief Ken Jackson said the first firefighters on the scene discovered 150 round bales of hay inside the barn were on fire along with several pieces of farm equipment inside the metal shelter.  Jackson said most of the farm equipment in the barn was saved. Firefighters spent the afternoon pouring tens of thousands of gallons of water on the stubborn fire, while also removing as much hay as possible from the barn.

Chief Jackson said the fire did not appear to be suspicious but the origin of the blaze was still under investigation. Crews from Plainview, Spivey’s Corner, Dunn, Newton Grove, Herring, Blackmon’s Crossroads, Meadow, Benson, Vann’s Crossroads, and Salemburg Fire Departments responded to the alarm. Newton Grove EMS dispatched two ambulances to the scene. No injuries were reported.
