ROCKY MOUNT - Rocky Mount
firefighters were dispatched at 1637 hours yesterday for a report of
smoke coming from "Jeff's Furniture Outlet" at 220 Marigold Street.
First arriving companies found heavy smoke showing from the masonry
building with a bow string truss roof. Defensive operations were
initiated and the roof collapsed. No injuries were reported.
Units
responding:
Engines 1, 5, 6, Ladders 20 and 30, Squads 1 and 2,
Air Support 11 and the District Chief.

HICKORY - Engine 2, Engine 5 and Ladder 1 under the Command of Car 7
responded to this mobile home fire on 27th Street NE. One female
occupant was transported to a local hospital for minor burns and
smoke inhalation.

JOHNSTON COUNTY - Crews
battled a brush and woods fire in a logging area on April 23. The
fire was reported about 1630 hours at the end of Hillington Road off
White Oak Road. Clayton, Cleveland, and Garner (Wake) fire
departments responded along with Forest Service units.
Five acres were involved on arrival and nearly 50 acres by the time
the fire was contained in the early evening. Two forestry plows
assisted with keeping the fire from spreading to residential
structures in nearby Hillington Estates.

Battle Fire for Days

SMITHFIELD - Fourteen fire departments from around Johnston County
responded again to Smithfield to help battle a large fire of unknown
origin at a scrap yard. Late last year, the same facility had
another fire that burned for days. No injuries were reported.

HIGH POINT - Engines 1, 7 and 13, Ladder 13, Squad 4, Battalion
Chiefs 1 and 2 responded to this dwelling fire on Circle Drive on
March 8. Three lines were used to control the fire.
