- On March 16 at 4:42 a.m. the Cornelius-Lemley Fire Department was dispatched to a motor-vehicle accident on Interstate 77 southbound, south of exit 28. Engine 3 and Rescue 4 arrived to find an overturned tractor-trailer with debris spread over the roadway. The driver was out of the cab and not injured. The tractor and trailer had separated and both saddle tanks were full and leaking fuel. While firefighters were locating one of the leaks they found a small fire in the engine compartment. It was immediately extinguished with a dry powder extinguisher. Firefighters contained the leaks using inflatable pools and by building a dike. The leaks were controlled once the tractor was righted. Crews stayed on scene approximately two and a half hours.
