Winston-Salem House Fire

WINSTON-SALEM - Winston-Salem firefighters from Engine 11 found
heavy fire and smoke showing from a group home on Sprague Street on
March 12th. Additional companies were special called. All occupants
were outside upon the fire department's arrival. No injuries were
reported.
Companies responding were Engines 11, 4, 5, Truck 2, Rescue 1 and
Battalion Chiefs 2 and 3.

Apex House Fire

APEX - On Saturday March 15th, Apex Fire
responded to a reported house fire. On the arrival of Engine 3,
they advised they had a wood frame house with heavy fire coming
from the rear of the dwelling. Engine 3's crew began an aggressive
interior attack. After several minutes of attack and not finding
the seat of the fire, the crew backed out and proceeded to the
rear of the house to knock down the bulk of the fire.
A crew from Ladder 1 arrived and deployed a 2.5-inch handline to
the interior including the attic. Units responding were Engines 1,
3, 3, Ladder 1, Tanker 1, Cary Engine 5, Morrisville Engine 3,
Holly Springs Engine 2 and tankers from Swift Creek and Fairview.

Fatality Collision

DAVIDSON COUNTY - Units were dispatched on
February 17th at 05:55 hours for a MVC with possible injuries.
Medic 5 arrived first and found an entrapment and fatality. Tyro
Engine 267, Medic 1, County Rescue Truck 67 and the NCSHP
responded.

Johnston County Tanker Incident

JOHNSTON COUNTY -
Antioch, Kenly, Selma, Thanksgiving and Wilson's Mills Fire
Departments responded to an overturned Waccamaw Transport
gasoline tanker February 22, 2008. The driver was pinned for
almost two hours before being extricated by firefighters.
Medevac choppers were unable to respond due to weather
conditions. Selma EMS transported the driver to the hospital
with serious injuries. The truck spilled several thousand
gallons of gasoline. NC Emergency Management handled the
hazardous materials cleanup.

Working House Fire

HIGH POINT - HPFD units responded to this fire at 411 Lardner Court.
Engine 7 arrived and reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the
Division C side of the structure. Two 1.75-inch lines were pulled.
Ladder 13's crew was sent to the roof for ventilation. No injuries
were reported. Engines 7, 1, 13, Ladder 13, Squad 1 and Battalions 1
and 2 responded.

LeatherHeads Hocky Club Gives Donation

CHAPEL HILL - Members from the Carolina LeatherHeads/Plug Uglies
Upper and Lower C Hockey Teams along with the Bethesda Fire
Department delivered a check for $7,398.00 to the UNC Burn Center at
Chapel Hill. The check was graciously received by Dr. B. Cairns and
the staff of the Burn Center.
The money was raised at this year's Battle of the Badges 2008, where
the LeatherHeads took on the Raleigh BlueLiners at the RBC Center.
The LeatherHeads and Plug Uglies are comprised mostly of
firefighters and EMS workers from the Triangle and surrounding
areas.
